Kind words for The Indie Stone

In light of all the sadness that has been directed at the down on their luck folk at The Indie Stone I decided to fight fire with fire and see what kind of good comments I could find.

Enjoy.

CaptainCape

Sick to see @lemmy101‘s news. Been burgled myself, I know sense of violation they feel. Extra painful for them. Long live #ProjectZomboid!

richardcobbett

@lemmy101 Oh dear lord. So very, very sorry to hear that.

botherer

@lemmy101 Hey, don’t make decisions or decide the future right now. Your brain isn’t in gear yet. I’m sorry this has happened : (

LewieP

@lemmy101 Count the positives: At least you’re all safe. Feeling for you.

xDerik

@lemmy101@CaptainBinky You got this guys. You’re part of my inspiration to be a game dev, and I know you’ll come out of this one on top

LLaDonZombie

@lemmy101@CaptainBinky come on guys. Don’t feed the trolls. You only give them power in your life. Get some rest, its gonna be ok.

Princeofmar5

@lemmy101 So sorry to hear that happen, I can’t understand why people are being stupid about it, maybe they need to be robbed to understand

PieClock

@CaptainBinky@Lemmy101 I’ve been following your game since it got its first burst of publicity and I know you guys are dedicated to the game. Don’t stop now because of a bunch of pricks.

Arrunas

These guys have had the worst luck in the world and i dont think its really the time to be dropping any abuse on them. I’d be both incredibly pissed off and very shaken were my house to get burgled. Not a nice feeling. In fact in this kind of situation i would be more inclined to offer my support and indiestone has it. Unless i have missed some kind of legal angle that isnt obvious then i’d think that by saying that hes worried about us not believing them and deserting the game.Well im not and i shouldnt think many of the other fine people on this forum will either. communities stick together so indiestone, if any of you read this then its all good. get yourselves sorted and calmed, the communities not going anywhere and i hope you guys having lost anything personal and are ok!

Lemon Grenade

For my first ever post on this forum I gotta say this is a time for us to rally around the devs. The weight of the break in is probably really heavy on them- I don’t think we need to make it worse. Awesome game needs awesome fans. And awesome patience. And anything else we can do for them from where we are to help bring a great game to the masses.

kurn1207

I have been waiting for a good zombie survival game for a long time, a long time before the developers started working on this. A few more months is really not going to hurt while they get back on there feet.

Viridiant

You guys have my continued support, please keep up the good work.

killer21334

DAMN :x ! This is just like what happened with Half Life 2, some bastard stole the code for the game (or in this case the computers containing the code for the game) and now the development suffered a major set back…And you guys don’t have to apologise, you were the ones that got robbed not the ones that robbed someone, we can wait some more for the next update…

Triptych

Damn. That sucks hard. A difficult setback, but not a mortal one. I don’t feel let down though. The Indie Stone already has a wicked awesome start. This game still rocks my socks at this stage. I’ll just keep tinkering around with what I can on my end to keep this game incredible.

Grey_Wolf

Well, lets all just hope that the team is okay, and that they can move one from this rather large set-back, not in terms of the game, but in terms of “real life”. Well, i guess the most optimistic thing to think about is that hopefully those laptops were insured.

GaradonDral

I’m sorry to hear that this happened, but I wish you guys the best with this situation. You all do amazing work, and it’s gonna take more than the actions of a couple shitty people to change that. Good luck and take care of yourselves! (fedora)

muncher21

It’s reddit. The worst website on the internet.Half are just plain stupid, the rest are just LOL SO EDGY kids. This blows guys, I hope you guys can find the laptops.

Side note by Adric: hell if MUNCHER is saying supportive things…

dinosaurJR

Im sorry to hear this guys, i really am. I hope the laptops turn up, lemmys credit card remains unmolested and that the scallywags that did this end up playing mumies and daddies in prison real soon.

Ozzirian

We’ve all lost work before, probably not the same amount they have, but having to redo it will go much faster than it did the first time. I don’t doubt you’ll make up the lost work in a short amount of time. My best of luck on finding the criminals.

dmillerw

God… watching my Twitter feed is depressing as hell right now.Yes, they made a mistake by not making regular backups, but they don’t need this hate right now. It pains me to see all the idiots…I’d like to punch something right now.

MajesticXII

Anyway as long as lemmy stays strong (mentally and physically after such an event) and keeps working on the game i dont think theres anything to worry about…Such is life, you make 1 step forward and 2 steps backwards…No reason to give up…

MajesticXII

i suggest someone edits that comment from redditlemmy doesnt need to see stuff like this in case he browses the forumhe only needs to see what 99% of the community is sayingwhich is that we are happy to wait as long as it takes

Lazerus

ill never go on reddit…they sound like a bunch of self-entitled pricks with nothing better to do than kick someone while they are down..its cowardly and outright disgustingI hope they get their laptops back but if not I can wait for as long as it takes

varuka

Lazerus wrote:ill never go on reddit…they sound like a bunch of self-entitled pricks with nothing better to do than kick someone while they are down..its cowardly and outright disgusting

I hope they get their laptops back but if not I can wait for as long as it takesyour comment alone made me decide to register on these forums

muncher21

Well, even if the code is lost, you guys still do have your memories of how to code the stuff. It will take a while but not AS long as it has.

Freeplayo7

and remember, your entire fanbase is not just on these forums and twitter, you guys have alot of supporters, take as long as you need to get back on track.

CrimsonMerc

I dropped a tweet to the indiestone but Id like to say it here.I know I cant speak for the community as a whole, but I am sure many agree with me.I came upon this project 2 days after the piracy issue and albeit a bit dissapointed at the situation. I knew at that time, that this project was worth waiting for. I signed up to the forums and since that day have checked back every day, just to see what was going on.When we waited for 1.5 I understood exactly why the delay, and still no problem waiting this team is amazing and has accomplished something incredible already. The current set back is heartbreaking to hear, but not for myself. I know some things in life are out of control and hindsight is 50/50. I read the tweet on my cellphone (yes pz is the only reason I even signed up to it to begin with) and immediatly felt grief for the team, especially Lemmy as I can empathize with this shitty situation.Long story short, I was a fan then, I am a fan now, and I will always be a fan in the future no matter what may come of this. Good luck guys and keep your heads up, ignore the hate as I know you will find just as much if not more love here. Hang in there Indie Stone,With much love and support~Crimson

dinodom000

I will wait for them to rebuild the code. I am sorry people are being the way they are. But that’s just how people in a large group get. Mob mentality. One person is like hey fuck those guys so everyone else jumps in. I really hope you guys get back on your feet and I support you 100% of the way.

TheSteaith

Reddit is getting this news around, (it’s front-paged)I hope the best of luck to you guys.

CrimsonMerc

I said this in another thread but I would like to reiterate it here.Indie stone are the victims in this, not us as consumers. We all knew what we were getting into and we already got our moneys worth. We have lost nothing personally and are sitting safe and cozy behind our laptops and computers right this moment. I swear I just cannot believe some of the backlash against the team I have seen and I really feel for you all, its just flipping crazy that this happened to you guys and I am sincerely sorry!

MajesticXII

You can lash out all you want and thats just normalbut what you have to actually try and do is realize that ppl are trolling you cause they see you reacting in that mannerits just very sad individuals that see ppl in a bad situation and are happy cause themselves they havent accomplished anything..so when they see you having a bumpy ride they get mental cause its their opportunity to make their miserable selves feel better…psychology 101…as soon as you get that into your head you will start feeling betterthere are so many ppl here ROOTING FOR YOU we dont CARE what you will decide to do we want you to be OK and FINE and we can WAIT (clyde)i paid the game before there was even a preview version and i was hyped then and im still HYPED NOWi have faith and will always have cause this is shaping to be one of the best indie titlesif i was rich i would fund you all your losses but im poor :geek:

George_Orwell

No matter what some faceless trolls on the internet have to say, there’s always some people (I can’t take ALL the credit) who are still here for you.

Phoenixhawk

As frustrating as the wait can be, it is nothing in comparison to what you have gone through. As someone else who popped in and has been watching just after the piracy issue, I have been waiting for some time to purchase the game. I purchased it earlier this week on a limited income and have no regrets. Regroup, and know that there are people here hoping for you to recover, and not just because we want the finished product.

agentsvr

I am sure everything looks terrible now, but you will make it and work it out (yes, recode and remake everything).

xruiner89

These guys aren’t scumbags man, they are decent dedicated guys who have put everything into making this game. They barely get by because of the time they put into it.

Thundergod

I’ll have to take your word for it. Two months of work down the drain must be frustrating beyond belief but it’s not the end of the world, if it’s true and they’re unable to get their laptops back then hopefully they pick themselves up from this and continue on with the project.

Jim Fear

If true, it’s awful news. I have been a huge supporter of the game and have been spreading the word as much as I can. Hopefully Lemmy is just exaggerating when he is saying it’s all over. I’m sure it’s a huge blow, but they can bounce back.

Bitter Aspect

I’m on the forum daily waiting for the new update. This is awful, absolutely abysmal. I literally have no money, been to 3 job interviews, no luck. The second I get some money, expect a donation.

Zithoraxx

It’s not over, PZ will continue to be made, as was pointed out in several posts. All that’s needed right now is patience from community as they (Indie Stone), get through this.

commandar

He’s just had his home broken into, lost god only knows what in personal possessions on top of weeks worth of work, is clearly drunk (and made mention of such), and is now dealing with the internet hate brigade calling him a prick, a liar, and a thief.Personally, I think it’s understandable that he’s emotionally off-kilter at the moment.

torrefaction

Yeah, basically fuck everything about the horde mentality. How many times is reddit going to villify someone only to realize they were wrong later?

VGChampion

Giving up is even dumber. Shit happens and you move on. The game looks fun but it’s still a tiny game. Look at what happened to Half-Life 2. If Valve said fuck it and closed the project down, we wouldn’t have one of the greatest games of all time.

robin9585

I bought the game, but seriously, it was dirt cheap. The amount of rage on the forums regarding lack of updates etc. seems really disproportional to what people have actually given the company.

DoesNotTalkMuch

I, reddit, will cut him some slack because he has had a bad day. And I encourage all you other other reddits to do the same.

Soup_and_a_Roll

As someone who hasn’t really followed Zomboid I would like to say FUCK THIEVES. People who thrive on the misery of others deserve to be hunted down and put down.

Applzor

wtf is with all the hate comments? A really interesting Indie developing team has potentially been put out business… show some damn compassion for them.

Manilow

Lol. You give someone the cash equivalent of a Starbucks latte and then act all butt hurt over not getting something in return?Seriously, walk away from your computer and get some perspective. You wouldn’t blow your nose in someones direction for $7.

LockeXIII

That’s terrible. I was really excited to see this game finished after I played the demo/beta.

lurksnomore

Well… fuck. I was definitely looking forward to this game, had so much potential.

TheSteaith

This was my favorite game to look forward too… this is terrible :*(

epic_awesome

I feel for these guys – all they can do is learn from it I guess. They will NEVER not have offsite backups again… Probably.

StarZtorm

I’m gonna wait till monday when the dust settles and see what the team are doing. I sure hope they will try to recover and continue making the game. I love what i have seen of it so far.

EpicFishFingers

To all the Captain Hindsights out there: it doesnt’ solve anything.Recently I had my bike stolen. That might not seem like a massively big deal to a regular guy, but this wasn’t just any bike. It had hydraulic disc brakes, rapid response flick-gears and suspension with remote lockout. It cost £350, but that’s not that point. It was my bike.I locked it up with a D-lock and cable at night, but stupidly didn’t lock the bike to the bike rack with the D-lock. Instead, I put the D-lock through the back wheel and frame, and locked it to the rack with the cable, The thieves must have cut the cable and carried the bike away. I was gone two hours and was absolutely devastated when I found it gone, and a cut cable lock on the floor. This was at the end of summer, a long 3-month summer of which I spent nearly every day riding that bike. I got really into riding because of that bike, and it was without a doubt my most prized possession. The first thing people said to me when i told them how I locked it was “you should have locked it up better/with the D-lock through the frame and rack [etc]”. Well I know that, and that shit doesn’t help. So telling this guy that he should have backed up his data better also won’t help. How many of you have actually even bothered to back up the one computer’s HDD you’re typing on now in case that computer breaks or is stolen? Yeah he had a big project but I’m sure you’re data isn’t exactly worthless either. Maybe he had a portable hard drive ordered and on its way or something.TL;DR: Some piece of shit stole my bike (old thread btw) and I could have locked it better to stop it from being stolen. So I feel this guy’s pain in his regret at not backing up his data better. But reminding him of this regret doesn’t change a fucking thing

MILKB0T

Honestly, you all are a bunch of jackasses. It’s sad to see that all the negative comments are the most upvoted. They’ve said in several places that this isn’t the end, and just that code from the last few updates was taken. A set back to be sure, but not the end of the game.I wouldn’t blame Lemmy in the slightest for not wanting to continue after the amount of support you lot seem to show. The slightest hint of something bad and they’re all scam artists that shouldn’t be trusted.Jeez louise.

spnkr

I’m sorry guys, but this man does not deserve the shit storm he is getting. He has spent a large portion of his time on this game, that was the teams dream to make. Though in hindsight this mistake could have been easily avoided, you live and learn. Also those people who are calling him a con-man, you disgrace this community, we are better than that. What happened was not him trying to con people out of the preorder money, but a horrible accident that occurred due to a mistake.

superpirson

What do you people care if your update is delayed by a few weeks, you will still get your product. And it’s not like you were promised the final product by a date. If they make one mistake and then promise to fix it, your position as the consumer remains the same, you just have to wait a bit.Everyone thinks that they are going to somehow bring justice to the system by telling these guys how much they fucked up. I think they already know that they fucked up. They don’t need a community to shove it down their throats again.

Kreivi

Very interesting looking at the high-horse judgements and hindsight comments. The guy just lost something very important and has my sympathy. But it seems like the popular opinion here is that sympathy is for the weak, and if a person loses composure they are a total twat not worth anyone’s attention. And about twitter; if you’re reading it, you’re asking for it.

dinodom000

You guys are going about this the wrong way. Why did I pre-purchase your game? Because I genuinely thought it was a good idea. And I still do. You suffer a major setback and nearly break down completely. You are going to have to learn you cannot satisfy the general public. Ever. There are always going to be people that are able to make you feel bad while trying to do what you love. Now of course you should of have backed up offsite more regularly. And you have probably heard this more times than you can count. But the past is the past. You are going to have to put it behind you and try to make up for it if you want to keep your dreams alive. If I where you I would get some red bulls, snacks, a computer, and this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhsTmiK7Q2M) and try your damn hardest to catch up. You have already come so far, if you quit now it would be a disgrace.

ydm6669

you guys should be fucking ashamed. OK yes, they made a mistake, but seriously, why do you all beat the dead horse ?it’s like you actually want them to quit – wtf is wrong with you all ?they get their stuff stolen, and 90% of that page is just insulting them and telling them what they should have done – WHAT THE FUCK WILL THIS DO TO HELP THE PRESENT SITUATION ?Lemmy deleted his twitter account, and Andy’s pretty fucking pissed as well .bravo /r/gaming. way to encourage indie gaming.

andxie

What the hell, Redditors. It seems like most of the comments are negative energy directed at the guy for not backing up the data, instead of outrage at the thieves who committed the crime. Sure, in this day and age the guy should have backup copies, but who should you be blaming? The guy who’s mistake that is not malicious in nature, or the thieves who committed a crime?

spidarmen

To all those bitching about “paying customers”:This was an indie project, and not widely publicized. You know what you were buying when you made the payment. There was no guarantee that you were going to see it finished. And I know the $5 I spent on it was well worth the hours I already spent in the alpha.

Campstar

It’s good to see reddit has taken the high road of deciding to decry Indie Stone as to be so idiotic as to be deserving this at best, and scam artists and charlatans who have taken money and run at worst. I’m sure telling a guy he’s functionally retarded because he didn’t have your amazing powers of hindsight hours after his home had been broken into, his dreams had been crushed, and his company has functionally been destroyed helps you all sleep better at night.

Was it stupid to not back this stuff up? Yes. Does it go against every sane thing any software company would do? Of course. Are they at least partially to blame for their current dilemma? Definitely. Do I see how this could have happened despite all of that? Yeah, I do.

A friend of mine and I tried going indie straight out of college. We didn’t have formal SVN commits, but then we didn’t have most of what we actually needed. We didn’t have a proper artist; we didn’t have a music composer, we didn’t have the proper tools for the job. We were two guys working out of our parents’ loft to save scratch, scrambling to get a game out the door before the funds dried up. If we had money and time to devote to anything other than development, we would have.

Backing stuff up was seen as an insurance policy, not as a required part of software design. And I suspect the same thing happened here. They had redundancy against the most common sorts of failures – hardware failures and the like. Short of a fire that burning down the flat or a robber, they would have been fine. When you’re knee deep in 16 hour days trying to get a build that can show to your family to prove you haven’t lost your mind and thrown your life away the thought “How can I improve my SVN hosting solutions to ensure redundancy in case there’s a cataclysmic event” isn’t exactly weighing on your mind.

It’s really, really easy to sit here and judge when you’ve never dropped everything and tried to make something you’ve cared about. And again, I’m not denying that there’s at least some degree of reckless stupidity involved in keeping your only code on two laptops. Only a fool or a very, very bad software engineer wouldn’t think a more stable backup system is a necessity. I don’t know much about the team and how green they are, but it seems like they learned that lesson the hard way.

But Jesus Christ, people, between the harsh language on here and the incessant insults on Twitter, you made him question whether he even wants to continue with the project. You guys didn’t make a point about the importance of backing up software, you made a point of how pointlessly cruel and heartless the internet can be. Instead of telling him he was stupid but encouraging him to carry on, you basically started throwing around accusations and insults like you’ve never made a stupid decision in your lives. Even when you’re right, acting like a complete dick to show off how right you are in someone’s moment of absolute despair doesn’t make you better than him. It just makes you an asshole.

Hendar

Ouch that sucks big time, don’t worry too much about it. It will turn out alright in the end, just keep your cool and get back up on the horse. The police will catch those buggers who stole the stuff!

myromm

I do believe that when those bad things happens, people should look for true friends.
But the devs, lemmy and others, just looked for answears in the wrong place, reddit and twitter are not good sources for this kind of situation.

I’m just here to say that you guys are mad and have the right to be. but take on consideration people who understand that its not your fault and knows that this is something that you guys cannot simply control, because those people can actually think, and are not just basementdwelling like those guys that only knows how to criticize.

keep your good work, take one or two days to recover, maybe more, and remember that there are people that love your game, but understand all the stuff that envolves making a game without a big company supporting it.

Boomer-Australia

You still have the support of the majority of the community besides those ******ds who keep insulting and threatening you, good luck and we/I hope you guys can get back on your feet soon

Leroy51

i cant believe that people would immediately think that this whole thing is a joke i mean if you have a look at lemmy and binky’s twitter the amount of hate is terrible my message to the devs is that i will never ever stop supporting you guys ever i am behind you 100% and i will always give you guys moral support forever no matter what you deserve you have been working like crazy and its so stupid how people think because they payed 8 dollars they can boss you around never ever stop doing what is your dream
